Parliament Week
WHAT IS UK PARLIAMENT WEEK?
UK Parliament Week (UKPW) is an annual event, spreading the word about what Parliament is, what it does and how you can get involved. It’s a great way to find out new things about UK Parliament or be reminded of things you might’ve forgotten!
This year, Parliament Week was launched with a whole school assembly which had a very special video message from our local Member of Parliament, Oliver Ryan.
Mrs Carlile visited each class to talk about the Houses of Parliament, their different roles including the importance of check and challenge and Parliamentary Ping-Pong! In Class 1, the children met Barry Bear, Lord Larry and King Charles to help them understand about the three parts of Parliament. They also built the Elizabeth Tower which is home to the famous large bell, Big Ben.
The week ended with Class 4 engaging in a live question and answer session with Baroness Wilcox of Newport from the House of Lords. The children had prepared some great questions about her role in Parliament. It was lovely to chat with her and the children gained so much information about her role.
