EYFS Bring a Story to Life with We’re Going on a Bear Hunt

This week, our EYFS children immersed themselves in the much-loved story We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen, bringing the adventure to life through their continuous provision.
Quoting the famous line, “We’re going on a bear hunt, we’re going to catch a big one! What a beautiful day, we’re not scared!”, the children eagerly re-enacted the journey from the story in a variety of exciting, hands-on ways.

Our learning environment was transformed so that children could swish through long wavy grass, splash through a deep cold river, squelch through thick oozy mud and stumble through a dark forest. Each area of provision linked to a different part of the story, encouraging imaginative role play, storytelling and language development.
Through this playful experience, children developed their communication skills, worked collaboratively with friends, and used descriptive language to retell key parts of the story. The activities also supported physical development as they moved in different ways to mirror the family’s adventure.

It was wonderful to see the children so engaged, confidently retelling the story and acting it out with such enthusiasm. Learning truly came to life as they stepped inside the pages of this classic tale.
