KS2 Beach School Trip

On our recent end-of-year trip, our KS2 children enjoyed a fantastic day of outdoor learning at Beach School in Lytham St Anne’s. With the sun shining and the sea breeze in the air, our pupils took part in a range of exciting workshops all focused on coastal habitats. The children got stuck into some squelchy fun as they explored the rich biodiversity in the mudflats. Armed with nets and buckets, they discovered worms, crabs, and other fascinating creatures living beneath the surface—and learned all about how these animals survive in such a unique habitat.

With their explorer hats on, the children trekked through the sand dunes, learning how these shifting hills form and why they are so important to coastal ecosystems. They spotted different types of plants and insects and learned how species adapt to sandy, salty, and windy conditions.

Walking along the shore, our young marine biologists hunted for natural treasures left behind by the tide—shells, seaweed, egg cases, and driftwood. This was a perfect chance to talk about tides, pollution, and the importance of looking after our beaches.

To finish off a wonderful day, the children worked in groups to create stunning beach art using natural materials. From jellyfish made of seaweed to fish shaped from shells, their creativity truly shone!
